Whitney Wolfe (born July 1, 1989 in Salt Lake City ) is an American entrepreneur , co-founder of Tinder , founder and CEO of Bumble .

Life

Wolfe is the daughter of the project developer Michael and the housewife Kelly Wolfe. She has a younger sister. She already demonstrated her entrepreneurial talent at college in the manufacture of bamboo bags , with the proceeds of which she partly supported the cleaning up of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 . As part of these activities, she entered into a collaboration with Peter Aufdenkamp, ​​with whom she imitated the organization “Help Us Project”. The bamboo bags became known nationally when fashion designers Rachel Zoe and Nicole Richie were pictured with them. Wolfe majored in International Studies at Southern Methodist University . After graduating, she traveled to Southeast Asia , where she also worked in orphanages . In 2017 she married Michael Herd.

Hatch Lab, Cardify, Tinder, and Bumble

She started working at Hatch Lab at the age of 22. This brought her into contact with the start-up "Cardify". When Cardify closed, she stayed in touch with its founders Sean Rad , Chris Gulczynski and Justin Mateen. She founded Tinder with them in 2012 and became the company's vice-marketing director. In 2014, she left Tinder, accompanied by a successful million-dollar lawsuit against Tinder employees for sexual harassment . Wolfe then moved to Austin and started Bumble, a dating app designed for women. Bumble was the fourth most popular dating app in the world in 2016.
