Wer bin ich? is a song by Jule Styne (music) and Walter Bullock , released in 1940.

Styne and Bullock wrote Who am I? for the musical film Hit Parade of 1941 (1940. Directed by John H. Auer ), with Kenny Baker and Frances Langford in the lead roles, who also introduce the song. The song received an Oscar nomination for Best Song in 1941 . The first lines of the song are:

Who am I to think that you're for me?
Who am I to wish that this might be?
Could I make you love me, should I even try?
Is it foolish of me to hear your name and sigh?

Numerous cover versions of Who am I? were recorded in the 1940s, u. a. by Vera Lynn , Bob Chester , Count Basie Orchestra , Ruth Price , Shirley Horn / Jimmy Jones , Joe Medlin , Bob Florence , Nina Simone , Moe Koffman and Barbara Lea . Tom Lord lists 19 versions of the song after 1941.
