Whooliganz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Whooliganz was an American hip hop band. It was founded in the early 1990s and consisted of the two MCs Mad Skillz ( Scott Caan , son of actor James Caan ) and Mudfoot (Alan Maman - now known as producer The Alchemist ).

Band history

Mad Skillz and Mudfoot were two young white rappers from Beverly Hills who developed relationships with the Soul Assassins , particularly Cypress Hill and House of Pain , and were signed by the Tommy Boy Entertainment label . With the help of DJ Lethal they produced the single "Put your handz up" in 1993 and in the same year accompanied House of Pain, Cypress Hill and Funkdoobiest on the legendary Soul Assassins US tour. In the years up to 1995 a complete album called "Make Way for the W" was created, but it was never released. Little is known about the reasons for this. In an interview, Alan Maman said that the record company Tommy Boy did not want to take the risk of releasing an album with two teenagers, although the single and the video for "Put your handz up" received positive reviews. The band broke up a short time later. Scott Caan followed in his father's footsteps and became an actor; Mudfoot - who, according to his own information , had copied his tools from DJ Muggs - remained true to hip-hop and, as an "alchemist", devoted himself entirely to production.

criticism

As far as the music of Whooliganz is known, it can be described as technically solid, but not outstanding. It is shaped by the style that DJ Muggs (Cypress Hill) and DJ Lethal (House of Pain) developed in the mid-1990s. In addition, it should be noted that the Whooliganz recorded the published titles between the ages of around 16 and 18 and had correspondingly high votes, which was often perceived as annoying and possibly prevented the band from becoming more widely accepted. The contrast is particularly evident on the track "Hit the Deck", in which Everlast has a guest appearance.
