How Honza almost became king (original title: Honza málem králem ) is a Czechoslovak fairy tale film by Bořivoj Zeman from 1977. In Czechoslovakia the film opened on July 1, 1977, in the GDR on December 15, 1978 in cinemas.

action

Honza, a farmer's son, is sent on a journey by his mother. “Good deeds are rewarded with just the same,” she tells him on the way. This is how Honza begins his journey and helps where he can. Honza falls in love with the maid Maruška and for her sake enters the service of a malicious farmer. The king promises the one who gets the king's daughter, who has been silent for ten years, to speak again, this to the wife and half the kingdom too. Honza manages with skill and intelligence to get the king's daughter to talk. He has to choose Maruška or the princess. Honza takes Maruška as his wife.

criticism

“Sympathetic fairy tale film based on the 'Stupid Hans' stories, also known in Germany, with a Czech pop star in the lead role. The director - not to be confused with Karel Zeman - is one of the veterans of Czech fairy tale films and is rather unknown in this country. "
