Wieland Sorge (born January 27, 1939 in Ponitz , Altenburg district ) is a former German politician ( SPD ) and holder of the Federal Republic of Germany's Cross of Merit .

After graduating from high school, Sorge initially worked as a machine fitter. He then studied history and sports at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and the University of Education in Potsdam . From 1963 to 1990 he worked as a teacher in the southern Thuringian city of Meiningen .

In January 1990, Sorge joined SDP Meiningen, which later became the SPD. In the People's Chamber election in 1990 , he succeeded in entering the People's Chamber . He retained the mandate until the end of the GDR on October 2, 1990. One day later he became a member of the German Bundestag . In the subsequent federal elections in 1990, 1994 and 1998 he was able to confirm his mandate, and in 1998 he won the direct mandate in the Meiningen - Bad Salzungen - Hildburghausen - Sonneberg constituency . Since it was passed by the Bundestag in 2002, Wieland Sorge has been active in various institutions and honorary posts. Among other things, he is co-founder of the Meiningen Theater Foundation , Vice President of the Thuringian Football Association and President of the DRK district association Meiningen.

On the occasion of his 70th birthday, Wieland Sorge was elected first honorary chairman of the Meiningen SPD on January 27, 2009. On March 11, 2010, Prime Minister Christine Lieberknecht presented him with the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany for his services, particularly in sports politics and the implementation of the German Unity transport projects. From January 2011 to October 2011, Sorge was Managing Director of Helipark GmbH , a German-Chinese joint venture company for the construction of two-seat helicopters.
