Nico Turoff (born November 24 . Jul / 6. December  1899 greg. As Nikolai Turow in Kremenchuk , Russian Empire , today: Ukraine ; † 22. June 1978 in East Berlin ) was a Ukrainian-born boxer and actor at the German film.

Life

Nikolai Turoff fled to Germany as a result of the October Revolution in 1917, where he started a career as a boxer. After his last fight in Madrid in 1925, he changed jobs and was brought in front of the camera as an actor.

With a beefy stature and a massive, angular skull, Turoff was predestined for powerful batches of all kinds. Turoff consistently embodied down-to-earth types and gripping, solid guys, including several crooks. He received a rare leading role at the side of Grete Mosheim in Hans Tintner's much-discussed social drama Cyankali in early 1930 .

The propaganda cinema of the Third Reich often cast him as a sinister negative figure, after 1945 Turoff was often committed to proletarian types in DEFA productions. In the GDR he was one of the busiest small actors in film; However, his parts rarely got beyond a few seconds and were often not even mentioned by name.

Nico Turoff has also played theater, in East Berlin he was seen at the Maxim-Gorki-Theater and the Berliner Ensemble, among others .
