Jacket and trousers is a DDR - comedy film of 1953. In the DEFA production it comes to competition of male and female workers in a steel mill. At the end there are new ideas to make the work easier.

action

A new ministry decision stipulates that women in a steelworks are not allowed to work on steel presses that weigh more than 250 kilograms. This meets with resistance from women who think they can do this job as well as men. To prove this, the women call for a competition between male and female workers.

The men are certain of victory because they rely on their physical strength. The women, however, use their heads. They develop a new cart with which the red-hot pieces of iron can be brought to the press on rails. This is how they win the competition and receive great respect from their male colleagues. Due to the newly created simplification of work, the decision will be repealed by the Ministry.
