Edwin Marian
Edwin Marian , actually Marian Kmieczak (born June 14, 1928 in Łódź , Poland ; † November 15, 2018 in Munich ) was a German director, author and actor of Polish origin.
Life
Marian grew up in Łódź and attended elementary school there. He was drafted into the Reich Labor Service as a student in 1945 and was in Upper Bavaria at the end of the war. He settled in Bad Kösen and took odd jobs, including working as an interpreter for Russian. In 1946 he began training at the German Theater Institute in Weimar , which he finished in 1950. In the same year he made his stage debut at the Staatstheater Leipzig , became part of the Berliner Ensemble under Bertolt Brecht in 1952 and finally belonged to the Volksbühne Berlin until 1980 , where he worked with Armin Mueller-Stahl among others .
As early as 1950, Marian made his screen debut in the DEFA film Jacket Like Pants . Numerous appearances in film and television followed. He also wrote several screenplays for television films from 1970. At the end of the 1970s, Marian's conflicts with the GDR regime increased, so Marian's films were no longer shown for political reasons or were banned by the censors.
In 1980 Marian did not return to the GDR from a guest tour to the Federal Republic. In the Federal Republic he was subsequently seen in numerous television films and series, including Derrick and Der Alte . He also played theater again and appeared in 1983 as Domingo in Don Carlos at the Bad Hersfeld Festival and at the Bonn City Theaters . Here he was seen as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in Martin Walser's In Goethes Hand , where he also directed with Peter Eschberg . Marian also directed Jean Anouilh's Eurydice at the Ernst Deutsch Theater in 1985 . It wasn't until 1990 that Marian appeared again in a DFF film: He took on a role in The Trio . After the fall of the Wall, Marian was cast in television series and films; his last film was 2001 The Soloist - No Man's Land . Since then he has devoted himself increasingly to radio plays.
Marian was divorced. The marriage has two daughters, including actress Michèle Marian .
