Shots gallows is a DEFA -Abenteuerfilm who on motives of the novel Kidnapped ( Kidnapped , 1886) by Robert Louis Stevenson based. Directed by Horst Seemann , who wrote the script based on a scenario by Wolfgang Held . The film was produced by the DEFA Studio for Feature Films, Artistic Working Group (KAG) “Babelsberg”.

The film premiered on June 22, 1968 in the Schwerin open-air theater, almost two years later, on August 1, 1970, it was broadcast for the first time on the first program of German television .

action

Scotland around 1750: the young David Balfour lives in poor circumstances, because his father barely makes ends meet as a teacher. Shortly before the father dies, he reveals to David that he is the actual heir to Balfour Castle. The castle is currently inhabited by David's greedy and power hungry Uncle Ebenezer.

Ebenezer captures David while he is inspecting his rightful legacy. He plans to sell David to America as a slave, but David finds supporters in the peasants who suffer from Ebenezer's rule as well as in the aristocrat Alan Breck and the beautiful farmer's daughter Catriona. David finally defeats Ebenezer, but does without Balfour Castle in order to be able to lead a simple life with Catriona.
