Wolfgang Held (writer, 1930)

Wolfgang Held (* July 12, 1930 in Weimar ; † September 17, 2014 there ) was a German writer and screenwriter who wrote novels as well as books for young people and screenplays.

Life

Wolfgang Held grew up in a consistently social democratic family . He was strongly influenced by the experience of the Buchenwald concentration camp when he was looking for an uncle arrested by the Gestapo in April 1945 . Held attended an elementary school and commercial building school in Weimar. In 1948/1949 he was a volunteer construction worker as a people's police officer . a. clearing the rubble and building the Maxhütte water pipeline . After suffering from tuberculosis, he had a meeting in the sanatorium that was decisive for his future life and lived together for months in a room with a vicar of the same age . He processed these experiences in the script for the DEFA film One carries the other's burden… . Held then began training as a journalist and worked as an editorial assistant. His first book was published in 1959. From 1964 Held was a freelance writer. His literary work was influenced by Louis Fürnberg , Hans-Joachim Malberg , Bruno Apitz and Walter Janka .

Held died in September 2014 in his hometown at the age of 84.
