The glass torch is a seven-part television film based on the novel of the same name by Wolfgang Held from 1989.

The series is about the fate and life of the Steinhüter family, who have been closely associated with the Carl Zeiss Jena company for five generations .

At the same time as the family history, the film presents a chronicle of the traditional Zeiss works from a small craft business to a modern, nationally and internationally renowned company in the fine optics industry.
