Horst Schulze

Horst Schulze (born April 26, 1921 in Dresden ; † October 24, 2018 in Berlin ) was a German actor and opera singer .

Life

Schulze, the son of a worker, did an apprenticeship as a car mechanic between 1937 and 1940 after graduating from school. He then attended the Petrenz Opera School in Dresden, where he took singing and acting lessons. Schulze had his first opera appearance in Lortzing's armory at the Dresden Opera . The actor was a soldier in World War II . After his return from the war, Schulze sang in the Volksoper in Dresden- Gittersee . There he met his future wife and soprano Anneliese Pillatzke. After his time in Gittersee, Schulze played at both the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater in Zittau and at the National Theater in Weimar . In 1956 he moved back to his homeland in Dresden, where he became the audience's favorite after numerous appearances at the State Theater and the State Operetta. He played here z. B. 300 times the title character in "Bel Ami". 1958 began his acting career in many DEFA and television films. Schulze was engaged at the Berliner Ensemble from 1965 to 1967. Between 1967 and 1972 he was employed at the Metropol Theater in Berlin. From 1972 Schulze worked briefly as a lecturer in Berlin and Dresden. Schulze appeared as Papageno in Mozart's Magic Flute and as Professor Higgins in the musical My Fair Lady . At the age of 90 he performed at Easter in Dresden's Dreikönigskirche with excerpts from Goethe's “Faust” and in Hoppe's court theater in Dresden-Weißig in front of a sold-out and cheering house.

He has two children, Andrea Schulze (born 1953) and Ralf-Peter Schulze (born 1955), who also took up an artistic profession.

For Schulze's role in the film "As long as life is in me", in which he played Karl Liebknecht , he was awarded the National Prize in 1966. He received the same award in 1969 for his performance in the film "Hans Beimler, Kamerad".
