Märkische Chronik is an 18-part television series that was produced for feature films by the DEFA studio for GDR television . The focus of the plot is on the events in the Brandenburg village of Güterlohe between 1939 and 1945 (1st season) and between 1947 and 1960 (2nd season).

The series was produced in two seasons. The first season (episodes 1 to 12) experienced its first broadcast from January 9th to February 16, 1983, the second season (episodes 13 to 18) from January 6th to February 10th 1989 in the first program of the GDR Television. The series is written by Bernhard Seeger, who wrote the scenario based on his novel Menschenwege . Hubert Hoelzke directed all episodes and also played a small role as driver for Jupp Keuner in the last parts of the first season. Hubert Hoelzke also wrote the scripts, which is not mentioned in the credits of the series.

The outdoor shots for the series were mainly shot in the Potsdam district, in the municipalities of Tremsdorf , Stücken and Wildenbruch .
