Horst Schulze (born March 19, 1935 in Aue ) is a German Protestant theologian . For his services during the Peaceful Revolution in the GDR in 1990 and for his commitment to the rescue of St. Marien Cathedral in Wurzen , he was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Wurzen in 2005.

Professional background

Horst Schulze graduated from high school in Aue in 1953 and then studied theology in Leipzig. After the teaching vicariate a pastor's position followed in Flöha , where he was ordained and worked from 1959 to 1962. This was followed by nine years as a pastor in Wermsdorf and hospital chaplain in the Hubertusburg Clinic. In 1971 Schulze became pastor in Hohenstein-Ernstthal , from 1980 he was pastor (later superintendent) in Wurzen. He retired in 2000.

Honorary positions

Schulze has been a member of the Evangelical Michaelis Brotherhood since 1971; For 30 years he was an elected board member in their council. From 1972 to 1990 he was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran State Synod in Saxony, at times also as an elected member of the church leadership.

From 1982 to 2010 Schulze was canon and dean of the St. Marien Cathedral in Wurzen , and since 2011 he has been the old cathedral .

In 1990 Horst Schulze headed the round table of the city and the district of Wurzen. From 1990 to 1996 he was a member of the Synod of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Germany .

Private

Horst Schulze grew up as the son of a caretaker and a cleaning woman. He has been married to Uta Schulze since 1958. The couple has three daughters and seven grandchildren and lives in Wurzen.
