The Vienna planning workshop is located in the Palais Obentraut

The Wiener Planungswerkstatt ( WPW ) is an exhibition and information center of the Viennese city administration, which has architecture and urbanism on the topic.

history

As early as the 1970s and 1980s, the business group of the Vienna City Administration , which was responsible for urban planning, carried out specialist public relations work in addition to the press and information service of the City of Vienna . Exhibitions and publications were created according to the media of that time. At the end of 1988, the professional public relations work was anchored as a separate group in the municipal department 18 (MA 18 public relations and knowledge management ). The Viennese planning workshop was founded at this time.

Many exhibitions and presentations on urban planning issues are shown as well as international contributions, which were and are visited by an average of around 2,000 people per topic.

In 2007 the exhibition was fundamentally changed. Instead of many small and short-term exhibitions, major exhibitions are now presented annually. These are each supplemented by a comprehensive and, in some cases, interactive framework program with specialist symposia and conferences.

The building in which the Vienna planning workshop is housed, the Palais Obentraut , is an office complex on Friedrich-Schmidt-Platz , directly behind the Vienna City Hall . It belongs to the ensemble of arcade houses around the Vienna City Hall, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site ( Historic Center of Vienna ) and is a listed building.
