Melissa Wijfje (born July 21, 1995 in Ter Aar ) is a Dutch speed skater .

Career

Wijfje had her first international successes at the Junior World Championships in Bjugn in 2014 . There she won the silver medal in the 1000 m, 3000 m and mini four-way competitions and the gold medal in the 1500 m and team pursuit. She had her first starts in the World Cup in November 2015 and took second place over 1500 m in the B group in Obihiro and 12th place over 1500 m in the A group in Seoul . At the 2015 Junior World Championships in Warsaw , she won the bronze medal in the mass start and the gold medal in the 1500 m, 3000 m, mini four-way and team pursuit. In the 2016/17 season she reached her first podium in the World Cup in Heerenveen with third place over 5000 m. In addition, she achieved third place over 3000 m and second place in the team pursuit in Stavanger and at the end of the season she reached eighth place in the overall World Cup over 1500 m and fourth place in the overall World Cup over 3000/5000 m. In the 2017/18 season she finished second in the team pursuit at the World Cup in Salt Lake City and won the gold medal in the team pursuit at the 2018 European Championships in Kolomna . In the following season, with ten top ten placements in the World Cup singles, she reached eighth place in the mass start World Cup, seventh place in the overall World Cup over 3000/5000 m and sixth place in the overall World Cup over 1500 m. At the individual distance world championships in 2019 in Inzell , she was tenth in the mass start and sixth in the 1500 m.
