Wikiwix is a multilingual search engine operated by the French company Linterweb S.à rl based in Val-de-Reuil . It only outputs search results from Wikipedia, but is not a wiki as the name suggests.
Wikiwix was included in many Wikipedia language versions in the respective Wikipedia special page Special: Search in mid-2007 , where it can now be used alongside other search engines (including Google and Yahoo ) to search Wikipedia.
You can search for “text”, “image” (image search) or “atlas”. Atlas means a search for maps in 13 languages.
Wikiwix has a kiwi as its logo , which picks for food with its beak on the ground. The slogan of the search engine in all language versions is the English description "The ultimate Wikipedia articles search engine".
The company Linterweb S.à rl has eight employees, in 2007 it published the "Wikipedia DVD" v0.5 together with the Wikimedia Foundation . Since 2008, the Wikiwix cache system has been used in the French-language Wikipedia to automatically archive external links in the footnotes.
