Eprimo ( spelling eprimo ) is a subsidiary of innogy SE and belongs to the E.ON Group and is a German electricity and gas provider based in Neu-Isenburg . The managing directors of the GmbH are Jens Michael Peters and Hans-Martin Hellebrand. Eprimo describes itself as an " energy discounter ".

history

Eprimo was founded on July 1, 2005 as its own sales company by Überlandwerk Groß-Gerau GmbH (ÜWG) based in Groß-Gerau , which started selling electricity across Germany in 1999. On December 22, 2006, Stadtwerke Mainz AG and RWE Energy AG - shareholders in equal parts in ÜWG - signed an agreement on the complete takeover of the sales company Eprimo GmbH by RWE. On January 1, 2007, Eprimo became a wholly-owned subsidiary of RWE Vertrieb AG in Dortmund (today: innogy SE), which in turn is a subsidiary of the energy group RWE AG. The entry in the commercial register took place on September 20, 2007. In the 2006 financial year, Eprimo had around 140,000 customers and generated sales of around EUR 100 million; in 2007 sales were already EUR 124 million. Eprimo has also been offering gas since autumn 2007. At the end of 2008, Eprimo was supplying around 450,000 customers in Germany with gas or electricity.

In October 2009 Eprimo reported that it had exceeded the 600,000 customer mark; In the spring of 2010, Eprimo supplied a total of around 750,000 customers with gas or electricity. In the summer of 2015, Eprimo stated that its number of customers was over 1.2 million. In early 2019, the company welcomed its 1.5 millionth customer.

RWE used Eprimo to win new customers and, with the electricity discounter, gained a large part of its 100,000 new customers in 2009.

In the first eight years after the takeover (2007 to 2014), Eprimo posted losses in seven financial years; these totaled around 140 million euros.

In June 2016, customers of Stadtwerke Heidelberg were contacted by a call center employee on behalf of Eprimo. You were deceived about the purpose of the call and, without knowing it, brought into a contract with Eprimo. This procedure was prohibited by a court in November 2016.

With the takeover of innogy SE by EON on September 18, 2019, Eprimo also became part of E.ON.

Green electricity

The green electricity for the “Eprimo PrimaKlima” tariff comes from hydropower plants and bears the TÜV Nord seal .

The Stiftung Warentest describes Eprimo as "weakly committed" when it comes to green electricity. Although green electricity is certified (TÜV Nord), Eprimo, unlike other green electricity providers, does not invest profits in new systems for generating renewable energies . There is no information on existing plants for generating green electricity on the website. The purchase of green electricity is only of benefit to the environment when conventional power plants are replaced.

Eprimo is a subsidiary of innogy SE. Eprimo's profits also flow there.

Distribution channels

Eprimo not only sells electricity and gas itself, but also works with a large number of sales partners. These include call centers, mobile phone shops, electronics retailers and price comparison portals on the Internet. The food discounter Lidl already had green electricity from Eprimo on offer.
