Viktor Bolkhovitinov ( Russian Виктор Фёдорович Болховитинов , scientific transliteration. Viktor Fedorovic Bolchovitinov ; January 23 * . Jul / 4. February  1899 greg. In Saratov ; † 29. January 1970 in Moscow ) was a Soviet aircraft designer .

Life

Bolchowitinov came into contact with aviation technology for the first time as early as 1919. He went to the Zhukovsky Academy and constructed his first glider in 1924. In 1926 he was one of the first students to graduate from this academy. Under his leadership, the bomber prototype DB-A was created in the years 1934-1936 , which set world records in November 1936 at maximum flight altitude (10,000 kg payload: 7032 m; 13000 kg: 4535 m).

Bolchowitinov joined the CPSU in 1937 and was given his own chair at the Zhukovsky Academy. In 1938 he began building jet-powered aircraft. Based on his results, he became chief designer of OKB 293 in Chimki in 1939 , which was specifically engaged in the development of rocket planes . These efforts led in 1940 to the testing of the first converted glider equipped with a liquid propellant rocket engine, Project RP-318-I , which first flew on February 28, 1940 . These attempts led to the development of the Beresnjak-Isajew BI-1 missile fighter , which was developed and tested under the direction of Bolchowitinow.

In 1943 he was appointed major general of the aviation engineering service, in 1947 he received a doctorate in technical sciences and finally in 1949 he was appointed professor at the Zhukovsky Academy . Bolchowitinov was twice awarded the Order of Lenin for his work . He wrote numerous papers on aviation technology.
