action

The book begins when John Arables sow gives birth to a litter of piglets . One of the piglets is puny and smaller than the others, and Arable decides to kill it. But his eight-year-old daughter Fern asks him to let the animal live. The father allows Fern to keep the piglet as a pet. She gives the active and adventurous pig the name "Wilbur". After a few weeks, Wilbur is sold to Fern's uncle Homer Zuckerman. Although Fern visits him at her uncle's farm as often as she can, Wilbur feels more lonely every day. Finally he hears and sees the gray spider Charlotte, who offers him her friendship.

Wilbur soon becomes a member of the animal community that lives in the basement of Zuckerman's barn . When Wilbur finds out that he should be killed and eaten for Christmas , he asks Charlotte for help. Charlotte comes up with the idea of weaving words into her web and praising Wilbur as an extraordinary pig, grandiose and radiant, in the hope of preventing slaughter. The plan succeeds with the help of the voracious rat Templeton, and so Wilbur not only stays alive but, accompanied by Charlotte, goes to the fair , where he wins a prize. But Charlotte, who has reached the end of her natural life span, dies during the fair after laying a few more eggs. To thank Charlotte for everything, Wilbur brings the sack of eggs back to the farm . After hatching, most of Charlotte's children move out to live their lives, only three remain with Wilbur: Joy, Aranea and Nellie.
