Wilde Gera (Erfurt)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilde Gera is the name of an arm of the Gera in the Erfurt city area.

Historical course until 1898

It originally branched off as an independent arm in the Brühl district from the Walkstrom of the Gera and curved east past the city center. It ran as a ditch in front of the inner wall of the city fortifications . In the area of Venice in the north of the old town it united with the Breitstrom . In 1898 the Wilde Gera was filled in after the flood ditch was expanded. The first Erfurt Ringstrasse, today's Juri-Gagarin-Ring, was built on it .

Today's course of the Wilder Gera in Erfurt

The Wilde Gera ( GKZ 564272) branches off to the left of the Gera (GKZ 5642) opposite the Dreienbrunnenbad about 80 m northeast of the Drei Quellen fountain at the Dendrological Garden . From there, the main line is referred to as Gera-Flutgraben (GKZ 5642) or furthermore as Gera. A good hundred meters south of Espachstrasse , the Walkstrom (GKZ 5642724) branches off to the right of the Wilder Gera . The Wilde Gera or Bergstrom (GKZ 564272) now runs northwards and is fed on its left by the Eselsgraben (GKZ 5642722). It turns to the northeast and crosses under the Strasse des Friedens , shortly afterwards the Bonemilchstrasse . It now flows more north again and is accompanied by the Bonemilchstrasse. Shortly before Maximilian-Welch-Strasse , it turns north-east and disappears briefly underground at the theater, only to reappear on the surface immediately east of Theaterplatz . It now makes a gentle curve to the southeast, then first crosses Mainzerhofstrasse , shortly afterwards Stiftgasse and Lange Brücke south of the cathedral and then reunites with the Walkstrom west of Meister-Eckehart-Strasse . The now noticeably wider Wild Gera flows from here in an arc to the north. A nameless arm branches off to the left south of the Rathausbrücke and flows back into the Wilde Gera shortly before Augustinerstraße . From here on the body of water is also called the Breite Strom . South of Little Venice branches off from the Wild Gera, this time on the right, the Schmale Gera (GKZ 564348); a left arm of this then reunites with the Wild Gera. The Wilde Gera crosses the Schlüterstraße , the Leopoldstraße and the Talstraße and then finally joins the Gera from the left at the level of the Waldemarstraße .
