Julius Budge

Julius Budge (born September 11, 1811 in Wetzlar , † July 14, 1888 in Greifswald ) was a German anatomist.

Life

Budge was a general practitioner in Altenkirchen (Westerwald) from 1836 to 1842 . At the same time as other researchers, he discovered the inhibitory effect of the vagus nerve on the heart's action , even if he misinterpreted his results. As an anatomist, he discovered in 1859 that as the striated muscles grew, not only did the thickness increase, but also the number of individual fibers. In the same year he realized that the liver is traversed by a capillary network that ends in the bile ducts.
