Erich Kallius

Erich Wilhelm Heinrich Kallius (born August 3, 1867 in Berlin , † January 1, 1935 in Heidelberg ) was a German anatomist.

Life

Kallius was the son of high school professor Albert Gottlob Samuel Kallius (1840-1918) and Anna Malwine Mathilde Blume (1842-1917). He studied medicine at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the Friedrich Wilhelms University of Berlin . He passed the state examination in Berlin in 1891 and was awarded a Dr. med. PhD. In Berlin he was a student of Wilhelm von Waldeyer-Hartz . In 1892 he became assistant to Friedrich Merkel at the Anatomical Institute in Göttingen and qualified as a professor in 1894 in anatomy. In 1895 he was appointed associate professor . In 1907 he followed the call of the Royal University of Greifswald to its chair for anatomy. From 1914 to 1916 he took part in the First World War. In 1917 he went to the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelms University as full professor . After four years he moved to the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg as the successor to Hermann Braus (1868-1924) . He was its rector in 1924 and dean of the medical faculty in 1922/23 and 1930/31 . He was a secret medical advisor.

A method for fixing Golgi stains comes from Kallius . Among other things, he dealt with the anatomy of the larynx, tongue, olfactory and taste organs.

Kallius received the Red Eagle Order, 4th class.

Until 1870, when his father converted from Jewish to Christian, his name was cuckoo. In 1896 he married Gertrude Giesinger, with whom he had two sons.
