The Wildganshof is a community building in the 3rd district of Vienna .

The Wildganshof, built from 1931 to 1933, was one of the last major construction projects of the “ Red Vienna ” before the establishment of the corporate state . It was named after the poet and director of the Burgtheater Anton Wildgans , who was born in the 3rd district and died in 1932 . The complex planned by the architects Viktor Mittag and Karl Hauschka originally comprised 829 apartments.

On the outside, the long, closed facades give the complex a defensive appearance. The outer sides are only interrupted at two diagonally opposite points: These are the remains of a planned rapid transit line , the route of which was planned across the Wildganshof; however, this railway line was never realized.

Inside there are - as with all large community buildings from the interwar period - spacious, green courtyards. The facades are kept very simple. The west facade facing Landstrasse Hauptstrasse is decorated with a terracotta relief "Plowing Farmer" by Alfons Riedel . The relief was added during the National Socialist era, the inscription “We don't talk, we act”, a saying by Adolf Hitler , was later removed or painted over. In one of the courtyards there is a bust of Anton Wildgans, which was also created by Alfons Riedel.

During the February uprising in 1934, the Wildganshof was the scene of military conflicts and was held for a relatively long time by the Schutzbunds ; only on February 14th it was taken by units of the armed forces.

The Wildganshof forms its own census district comprising two census districts, which according to the 2001 census had 2271 inhabitants.
