Wildlife Park is a computer game that was released in 2003 and deals with simulating a safari park.

Game flow

In the campaign mode, the player has to complete various tasks that are modeled on the requirements of real parks. He has to build appropriate enclosures for rare animal species or catch runaway animals, but also save a park from bankruptcy. In the free construction mode, the player can create a safari park according to his or her own wishes on ready-made maps.

particularities

As the first game of its kind, Wildlife Park focuses on simulating functioning ecosystems . The player must satisfy the animals with appropriate planting and feed, otherwise they can become sick or die. Fences and floors must be tailored to the species, and the programmers tried to recreate real relationships between the animals. In the campaign mode, the satisfaction of the park visitors is second only to the welfare of the animals. A window can be called up for each animal species, in which information is provided about the real distribution as well as the feeding and courtship behavior. A separately accessible lexicon offers further information on all animals and plants.

criticism

  • The idea of the game met with a generally positive response, but there were also some criticisms. The targeted simulation of the ecosystem was only partially successful. This is how z. B. penguins on grassland and giraffes can be settled in the snow without any major problems.
  • While some statistics are calculated in great detail, other useful information is completely absent.

Add-on and continuation

The only add-on to Wildlife Park is called Wild Creatures . It adds prehistoric animals like mammoths and dinosaurs to the game, as well as new missions. On the technical side, the game has been expanded to include a zoom function.
