The Wilderness Road ( Swedish Vildmarksvägen ) is a tourist road in northern Jämtland and southern Lapland .

The road initially extends along the water system Ströms Vattudal of Strömsund according Gaddede via the Swedish county road 342, then via Jormvattnet and Stora Blåsjön above the tree-line over the mountains and Stekenjokk according Klimpfjäll . Then the road leads past the bank of Kultsjön and on via Stalon to the next large lake, Malgomaj , and past its southern bank to Vilhelmina . It starts and ends at Europastraße 45 .

history

The road through the mountains above the tree line was built in the 1970s for traffic to and from the pit in Stekenjokk. The mine was closed in 1989. Stekenjokk has never been a permanent settlement. The miners lived mainly in Klimpfjäll and Stora Blåsjön.
