Robert Wilfrid "Wilf" Stevenson, Baron Stevenson of Balmacara (born April 19, 1947 in Kyle of Lochalsh ) is a British politician ( Labor Party ) and a member of the House of Lords .

Life

Stevenson worked from 1970 to 1974 at the University of Edinburgh and then until 1987 at Edinburgh Napier University . 1987 to 1997 was first deputy director, then director at the British Film Institute , before he became director of the Adam Smith Institute until 2008 . From 2008 to 2010 was the Special Advisor to Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Headmaster of Prestwood Lodge School near Chesham . In 2008 he received an honorary doctorate from Napier University, in 2010 he became a life peer as Baron Stevenson of Balmacara , of Little Missenden in the County of Buckinghamshire , and has been a member of the House of Lords ever since. Since 2011 he has been the opposition party whip and spokesman for business and innovation as well as for culture, media and sport.
