Wilfredo Vázquez (born August 2, 1960 in Bayamón , Puerto Rico ) is a retired Puerto Rican boxer in feather , bantam and super bantamweight . He was trained by Angel Rodriguez .

Career

In late 1981 Vázquez made his professional debut against William Ramos and lost on points. In October 1987 he became the bantamweight world champion of the WBA when he defeated the South Korean Park Chan-yong by technical knockout in round 10. The following year he defended this belt with a draw and lost it to the previously undefeated Khaokor Galaxy .

In March 1992 he competed against Raúl Pérez for the WBA world championship in super bantamweight and won. After a total of 10 title defenses, he lost the belt on May 13, 1995 to Antonio Cermeño by unanimous decision. In May 1996 he boxed against Eloy Rojas for the WBA world championship in featherweight and won by TK o. He lost this title in April 1998 to Naseem Hamed .
