Wilfried Bust is a former German canoeist . He was multiple GDR champion.

Life

Bust came in autumn 1949 together with Arnold Bare to the Magdeburg district Fermersleben on the same local canoe Department of Sports Association of Buckau Wolf , the later BSG Stahl Magdeburg South or BSG Motor Southeast Magdeburg . Before that, he had practiced the sport privately in the vicinity of the Michaelis River Swimming Pool. Bust and Kahler brought their own walking canoe with them.

A first major success came in 1950 when they defeated the reigning GDR champions Musche and Eschstedt in a two-man canoe over 1,000 meters in a canoe regatta of the SV Lokomotive on 23 August 1950 . In order to get the boats urgently needed in the association, further boats were built himself and the materials for this were cut by himself in Buckau-Wolf's carpentry shop. To get copper nails he smuggled them from West Berlin into the GDR. Bust worked at Buckau-Wolf.

On July 15, 1951, in Leipzig, together with Arnold Kahler, they won the GDR championship title in the two-man canoe over 1,000 and 10,000 meters. Also at the state championships of Saxony-Anhalt they finished first over 1,000 meters. Further successes followed. They were also successful at the GDR championships in 1952, where Bust and Kahler won the championship title both over 10,000 meters and in the national relay for men over 10 by 1,000 meters. Bust and Kahler were therefore already favorites at the 1953 championships and were able to defend the title over 10,000 meters.

In 1954, the GDR canoe association also tried the canoe slalom . Together with Kahler and Udo Cohrs , Bust attended a corresponding course in Jena - Lobeda . There was then a competition between the GDR and Czechoslovakia in Kala. In the absence of suitable material, people went with the open boat. In the first run, Bust and Cohrs capsized, and after a successful second run they placed in the first third. However, there was no further engagement in the slalom. In the same year, after a training camp in Berlin , Bust took part in an international canoe regatta in Romania .

In addition to his sporting activities, Bust continued to work on the development of the club and took part in the relocation of the club's own boathouse on land. Also during the later construction of the association's own port of Fermersleben , Bust organized wood from his place of work, now known as SKL .

In 1957 Bust was part of the team of the ten-man Canadians of the BSG, who won the GDR championship title over 1,000 meters. Then there were no further national championship titles. In 1958, Bust and Kahler won the VII Magdeburg canoe regatta.
