Wilfried Grecksch

Wilfried Grecksch (born August 15, 1948 in Dresden ) is a German mathematician .

Life

Grecksch attended primary school in Dresden from 1955, then the Pestalozzigymnasium in Dresden, where he graduated from high school in 1967. In the same year he began studying mathematics at the TU Dresden , which he completed in 1971 as a mathematician. Until 1973 he was employed as a mathematician at VEB Rationalisierung lignite in Halle (Saale) , in 1973 he became a research assistant at the Technical University of Leuna-Merseburg and worked there until 1992.

At the same time, Grecksch obtained his doctorate in 1976 at the TU Dresden, spent research work in Donetsk with Josef I. Gichmann , completed his habilitation in 1980 in Merseburg and became a lecturer in analysis in 1984. From 1987 he was associate professor at the University of Merseburg and in 1992 became professor for stochastics in the department of mathematics and computer science at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.

From 1993 to 2000 he was managing director of the Institute for Stochastics, from 1995 to 2000 dean of the department and from 1999 to 2000 dean of the faculty of mathematics and natural sciences. He was elected to the highest office of Halle's alma mater as rector on September 1, 2000, and was confirmed in his second term on June 25, 2003.

His main focus is stochastics, in particular stochastic differential equations and related estimation and control problems.
