Wilfried Krätzig
Wilfried B. Krätzig (born November 8, 1932 in Hamburg ; † March 7, 2017 ) was a German civil engineer and professor of statics and dynamics at the Ruhr University in Bochum .
Life
Wilfried Krätzig studied civil engineering at the TH Hannover from 1952 to 1957 and then worked for the Züblin company . From 1962 he was assistant and later senior engineer and lecturer at the Institute for Solid Construction at the TH Hannover under Wolfgang Zerna , where he received his doctorate in 1965 (on the boundary value problem of the flat spherical shell under normal load and stationary temperature fields) and completed his habilitation in 1968 (contribution to a linear approximation of the Stability theory of elastic planar structures) . In 1969/70 he was visiting associate professor at the University of California, Berkeley . In 1970 he became professor for statics and dynamics at the Ruhr University in Bochum in the Institute for Structural Engineering, headed by Zerna. In 1998 he retired.
He published over 250 specialist articles and seven specialist books and is considered one of the founders of numerical simulation methods in statics and dynamics in Germany.
He was visiting professor in Berkeley (1978), Florence (1990) and at the Chuang-Yuan Christian University in Chung-Li . He was a corresponding member of the Braunschweigische Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft , whose Carl Friedrich Gauß Medal he received in 1991. In addition to other honorary doctorates, he received an honorary doctorate from the TU Dresden in 1994 and the Max Planck Research Prize in the same year . In 2003 he received the VDI award of honor .
He ran the engineering office Krätzig und Partner in Bochum.
