Wilfried Lange

Wilfried Lange (born February 22, 1910 in Riga , † 1993 ) was a German chess master and chess organizer.

Chess player

In the 1930s to 1950s, Lange took part in German championships eight times . Because of his good placements, he received the title of German Master in 1949 .

At a young age he lived in Braunschweig . Here he won the Lower Saxony championship in 1933 . He later moved to Essen , where he won the city championship of Essen several times and in 1952 the championship of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Further successes were his victory in Hamburg in 1946 and 1952 as well as winning the German team championship in 1947 and 1948 with the Essener SG 1904 club . He was invited to international matches several times. In 1952 he took part in the Chess Olympiad in Helsinki for Germany and, as a reserve player, achieved 5 points from 10 games (+3 = 4 -3).

Lange achieved his best historical rating of 2528 in September 1950 .

Chess organizer

After the Second World War , Lange was chairman of the chess federations in Essen and Industriegebiet as well as the representative of the chess federation of North Rhine-Westphalia at the working group of the German chess federations . In these positions he made important contributions to the reconstruction of chess in Germany.

Private

Wilfried Lange was a doctor of chemistry by profession .
