Wilfried Seibel (food technologist)

Wilfried Seibel (* 1930 in Dalwigsthal ; † January 12, 2006 in Detmold ) was a German food technologist . He was the head of the Federal Institute for Grain, Potato and Fat Research in Detmold (today incorporated into the Max Rubner Institute ) and Vice President of the Grain Research Working Group.

Life

Seibel studied agriculture; In 1956 he received his doctorate from the University of Giessen , then he first went into research, then as technical director at a large Dutch mill. In 1968 he became head of what was then the Federal Research Institute for Grain and Potato Processing and, after a restructuring of the Federal Research Institute, head of the Institute for Milling and Bakery Technology.

Seibel published over 700 articles on grain technology and grain processing and gave over 600 lectures on them. Between 1968 and 1995 he was Vice President of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Getreideforschung e. V., from 1973 he was editor of the specialist magazine Getreidetechnologie . At times he was "Editor-in-Chief" of the magazine Gerne, Mehl und Brot. He retired in 1995.

Seibel was active in several associations and held offices there: he was a member of AACC International (American Association of Cereal Chemists) since 1975 and a member of the European section there. He also held positions in the International Association for Cereal Science and Technology (ICC): from 1988 to 1996 he was technical director there, from 1996 to 2006 co-director and also president of the ICC from 1996 to 1998.
