Wilfried Wöhler

Wilfried Friedrich Hans Wöhler (born February 9, 1935 in Haan ; † August 29, 2019 ) was a German fencer. He was two-time German champion in saber fencing and participant in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome . He first fought at WMTV Solingen, later at ETV Hamburg and FCR Hamburg.

1955 Wöhler was German junior champion in saber fencing. In the active age group, Wöhler won the saber championships in 1958 and 1960 . In 1957 and 1959 he was second, in 1956 and 1961 he was third.

In 1957 , 1959 and 1961 Wöhler took part in the world fencing championships, in 1958 he moved from Solingen to Hamburg. In the same year he won an international saber tournament there. As a fencer for FCR Hamburg, Wöhler participated in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. In the individual, he was eliminated in the third of five rounds. The team (Wöhler, Dieter Löhr , Jürgen Theuerkauff , Peter von Krockow and Walter Köstner ) took fifth place.

Wilfried Wöhler died on August 29, 2019.
