Wilhelm Böhm (Germanist)

Wilhelm Böhm (born December 24, 1877 in Berlin , † March 11, 1957 in Hanover ) was a German German studies scholar and university professor.

Life

He was the son of the Hanover school principal Friedrich Böhm and his wife Marie, née Schröter. After attending the Humboldt Gymnasium in Berlin, he studied history, philology and philosophy in Berlin. He received his doctorate in 1902 under Erich Schmidt with a dissertation on the subject of the fragments of Hölderlin's Empedocles. From 1906 to 1924 he was a teacher in the higher education service, at times also director of a lyceum in Berlin. Then he lived in Berlin as a private scholar. From 1930 he was honorary professor for German language and literature at the Technical University of Hanover . In 1933 he joined the NSDAP . He was also a member of the National Socialist Teachers' Association . He taught until 1955 a. a. also philosophy and cultural philosophy.
