Wilhelm Benninghoff

Wilhelm Benninghoff (born September 19, 1891 in Dinslaken , † after 1945) was a German manager . From 1934 to 1939 he was head of the Berliner Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft (BVG). Benninghoff was a member of the NSDAP .

He was the son of Diedrich Benninghoff and his wife Katharina nee Schürmann and was born in Dinslaken in 1891. After attending elementary school, he switched to the technical school and followed by an apprenticeship. Wilhelm Benninghoff studied until March 1913, spending a year and a half in the railway administration.

After the outbreak of the First World War, he was called up for military service and used with the railroad troops. At the end of the war he was released as a lieutenant in the reserve. From December 1, 1918 to March 31, 1920, Wilhelm Benninghoff worked in the Reich Treasury . Then he changed until February 28, 1923 as head of the railway department d. RTG. Wilhelm Benninghoff was then a member of the board of directors of Eisenbeton-Aktiengesellschaft (Eisag) in Berlin until February 23, 1933. He held the title of builder

On July 22, 1933, Benninghoff was appointed director of the BVG board. Here he was responsible for the technical and structural departments. After the accidental death of the operator Georg Thomas (the precise circumstances were never clarified), Benninghoff followed on July 6, 1934 and took over the chairmanship and management of the company. After the promotion, he announced in the BVG employee newspaper “Die Fahrt” that “to make the BVG an exemplary company group of the National Socialist Reich.” So he continued the “cleansing” of the BVG that had already been started under his predecessor. From 1937 the official title of the head of the BVG was “first director”. From July 1, 1939, Benninghoff was on leave due to illness and left the BVG on December 31, 1939. His successor was the former Marienwerder District Administrator and Senior Councilor a. D. Otto Fritz Ulmer , who held this post until 1945.

When the "Reichsverband des Kraftfahrgewerbes" was founded as the leading association for commercial motor transport, Benninghoff was elected First Vice President on December 1, 1934. Berlin city councilor Johannes Engel , who was also chairman of the BVG supervisory board, took over the chairmanship . In March 1935, Benninghoff was elected president of this body, which also made him a member of the Reichsverkehrsrat, an advisory body to the Reichsverkehr ministry. In addition, Wilhelm Benninghoff was Vice President of the Association of Trams, Small, Branch and Motor Transport in Brussels and First Vice President of the Reich Association of German Transport Administration in Berlin.

In 1937 he presented the BVG in the trade journal Die Deutsche Volkswirtschaft under the title Berliner Nahverkehr . In 1938 he spoke publicly about future traffic arrangements in the Greater Berlin area.
