Wilhelm Braun (born May 4, 1906 in Kreuzau , † January 31, 1986 in Munich ) was a German painter .

Life

After an apprenticeship as a painter at home and abroad and studies in Stuttgart, Wilhelm Braun received a teaching position for design at the trade school in Munich and became a master student of Professor Franz Klemmer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . Before the Second World War he went on study trips to Italy and Libya. During the Nazi era, Braun was banned from exhibiting. He became a Russian prisoner of war. After his return he worked from Munich, first in a studio in Schwabing, then in Forstenried.

Works by Wilhelm Braun

Wilhelm Braun has made numerous architecture-related works on public buildings and churches in Bavaria, Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia. These include a mosaic on the south side of Maxburg in Munich, the glass windows in St. Peter and Paul and in Maria Königin in Grünwald, in the choir of the Marienkapelle in Würzburg, the seminary church in Speyer and in the church of St. Heinrich and the Rurschule in Kreuzau . The Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote about an exhibition in the Maxburg in Munich in 2011: "The generous design, which gives his church windows a great effect, is also used by Braun in the paintings, which are almost always characterized by strong colors. Wilhelm Braun himself said about his Work: "In all artistic work, it is important to me to convey liveliness with lines, shapes and colors."

  • 1969 silver medal at the "Grand Prix de New York 1969"
