Wilhelm Dangelmaier (born December 22, 1949 ) is a German engineer and held the chair for business informatics , especially computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute at the University of Paderborn .

Career

Dangelmaier grew up in Schwäbisch Gmünd , where he graduated from Parler-Gymnasium in 1968.

Dangelmaier studied mechanical engineering from 1968 to 1973 , specializing in production engineering at the University of Stuttgart . He then became a research associate at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) in Stuttgart and in 1977 group leader for factory planning in Germany at the IPA. In 1978 the doctorate followed. A year later, Dangelmaier became head of the factory planning department at Fraunhofer IPA. In 1985 he received his habilitation. In 1986 Dangelmaier became a private lecturer and four years later an adjunct professor at the University of Stuttgart. In 1991 he was appointed university professor at the University of Paderborn for the subject of business informatics, in particular CIM. Dangelmaier has published over 500 articles in specialist journals and book chapters, as well as several books on the subjects of production planning and control, modeling and simulation of production systems, computer-integrated manufacturing and e-business systems.

Research priorities

The main focus of Dangelmaier's research work was:

  • Computer-integrated Manufacturing (CIM),
  • Material flow and factory planning,
  • Simulation,
  • Production planning and control and
  • Flexible production systems.

His main interests were models and tools for distributed production systems.

More functions

In 1985 Dangelmaier was awarded the Otto Kienzle commemorative coin from the Production Engineering University Group. Two years later he received the Joseph von Fraunhofer Prize from the Fraunhofer Society and in 1988 the Ring of Honor from the Association of German Engineers. Dangelmaier was a member of the German Research Foundation (DFG) from 2005 to 2008. In summer 2008 he became a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) .
