Wilhelm Detmer

Wilhelm Alexander Detmer (born April 11, 1850 in Hamburg ; † December 12, 1930 there ) was a German plant physiologist.

Life

Wilhelm Detmer studied agriculture at the Hohenheim Agricultural University from 1868 . In 1870 he moved to the University of Leipzig , where he received his doctorate in soil science under Wilhelm Knop in 1871 . In 1872 he moved to the University of Halle . In 1875 he completed his habilitation in plant physiology at the University of Jena . Initially a private lecturer, he was appointed associate professor at the Botanical Institute in Jena in 1879, and in 1925 he was appointed full professor of soil science , seed physiology and plant physiology. In 1925 he retired. In 1883 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

Detmer worked in particular in the field of germ physiology. He also wrote textbooks on soil science and plant physiology.
