Life

Wilhelm Dodel was born on March 25, 1850 as the son of the red tanner Wilhelm Adam Dodel and his wife Maria Magdalena born. Wonhas (daughter of an Ebingen saddler) born in Ebingen (since 1975: Albstadt- Ebingen). He studied law and in 1878 took up his first judicial position at the district court in Marbach am Neckar . There he married the landlord's daughter Sofie Speidel on March 6, 1882.

Dodel cultivated a relationship with his clientele that was influenced by his Swabian origins, which made him popular in Marbach am Neckar , but not with the Württemberg Minister of Justice, Eduard von Faber . It was only in 1892 - after Fabers' service - that Dodel succeeded in becoming chief magistrate in Blaubeuren . There he developed into the legendary “Swabian Solomon ”, his way of conducting negotiations and reaching a verdict made him famous in legal circles as “Chief Justice Dodel”.

On September 15, 1913, Dodel retired and initially lived with his family in Ulm to make it easier for his son to attend the grammar school there. Dodel died on January 24, 1934 in Moosbach at the age of 84.

The anecdotes about the "chief magistrate Dodel" was written by chief magistrate Dr. Karl Setz recorded for posterity in a small book Dodeldum ( ISBN 3-87421-074-X , first published in 1956 by Erich Hoffmann Verlag Heidenheim, latest edition 2001 by Knödler Verlag). His hometown Ebingen reminds of the well-known lawyer with a Wilhelm-Dodel-Gasse .
