Wilhelm Gorton (born December 8, 1864 in Weitensfeld im Gurktal , † January 6, 1922 in Strasbourg (Carinthia) ) was an Austrian politician , landowner and honorary citizen of the Carinthian city of Strasbourg .

Life

Wilhelm Gorton grew up as the son of a landowner in Weitensfeld in Carinthia . During his studies in 1884 he became a member of the “Silesia Wien” fraternity . Gorton married on October 29, 1890 Gustava Aloisia Gorton (1863-1920), née Countess von Egger, who had been married to his cousin Johann Gorton, who had died just over a year earlier.

Gorton was mayor of the city of Strasbourg in Carinthia and as a representative of the "large property" (GG) a member of the Carinthian state parliament . He was sworn in for Simon Rainer on March 14, 1899 and remained in this position for three terms until 1914.

After a major fire in Weitensfeld in 1890, in which numerous buildings burned down along Marktstrasse, the volunteer fire brigade in Weitensfeld in the Gurktal was founded on July 30, 1890 under his leadership and Gorton was elected first commandant.
