Wilhelm Gottlieb Friedrich Scriba (born November 16, 1767 in Nieder-Beerbach ; † May 5, 1830 in Schwickartshausen ) was a German theologian and leisure scientist.

origin

The family name Scriba, the meaning of which is derived from the Latin Scriba = scribe, has been in Germany since the end of the 17th century, first in Westphalia, then mainly in the Landgraviate - later Grand Duchy - Hesse, and there in the Darmstadt district and the one to the north Province of Upper Hesse documented.

Life

Wilhelm Gottlieb Friedrich Scriba was the son of the pastor of Nieder-Beerbach, Moritz Scriba (1734–1799), and his wife Maria Elisabeth, née Katz from Hofheim (probably Hofheim near Goddelau ). The grandfather, Johann Christoph Scriba, had also been a pastor in Nieder-Beerbach. Together with his brother Johann Georg Wilhelm received private and grammar school lessons and studied theology at the University of Giessen from 1787 to 1790 . He then became tutor to his uncle, the pastor Johann Friedrich Scriba (1737–1796) in Ober-Ramstadt . In 1791 he changed to the "Hessische general hospital" in Hofheim as a lecturer. In 1802 he was appointed pastor in Ulrichstein , and in 1812 in the same function in Schwickartshausen.

On the basis of his publications of private research he was accepted as a correspondent in the " Wetterauische Gesellschaft für die Gesamt Natukunde" in 1808 and in 1811 in the "Westphälische Landesculturgesellschaft" .

In 1802 he married Albertine Charlotte, born in Arheilgen . Gebhard. Several sons and daughters came from the marriage, among them the politically active and u. a. with Georg Büchner befriended theology student Eduard Scriba (1808-1837).
