Scientific career

Wilhelm Hasselbring received his diploma in computer science from the Technical University of Braunschweig in 1989 . From 1989 to 1993 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Essen . In 1994 he obtained his Ph.D. in computer science at the University of Dortmund with his thesis on: "Prototyping Parallel Algorithms in a Set-Oriented Language". Between 1994 and 1998 he was an assistant in the software technology research group at the University of Dortmund. He was then appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands . From 2000 to 2002 he received an assistant professorship for computer science at the University of Oldenburg , where he also took over the management of the "Computer Service Unit (ARBI)" of the Institute for Computer Science from October 2000 to September 2008. In January 2003 he was appointed professor at the Institute for Computer Science at the University of Oldenburg and worked as a professor until September 2008. From 2003 to 2004 he was also director of the Institute for Computer Science and Vice Dean of the Faculty for Computer Science, Economics and Law at the University of Oldenburg. In 2008 he took over a professorship at the Institute for Computer Science, the Technical Faculty, Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel . Since November 2008 he has been a member and "Principal Investigator" of the Cluster of Excellence " The Future Ocean ". In 2011 he also became a member of the second Kiel Cluster of Excellence "Inflamation at Interfaces" and since July 2012 he has been Dean of the Technical Faculty of the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. He has been a member of the adesso SE university advisory board since 2016 .
