Wilhelm Heinrich Beckher

Wilhelm Heinrich Beckher (also: Becker ; born June 2, 1694 in Königsberg (Prussia) ; † October 2, 1768 in Labiau ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

The son of the royal councilor Daniel Friedrich Beckher and his wife Katharina Elisabeth Hesse had initially received private lessons. On May 27, 1711, he enrolled at the University of Königsberg , where he wanted to study theology. In addition, he attended lectures in dialectics, analytics, ethics and politics with Paul Rabe (1656–1713), astronomy, history, geography, nature and international law with Georg Thegen , physics, metaphysics and Hebrew with Christian Gabriel Fischer (1686–1751) and experimental physics with Heinrich von Sanden . He completed his theological lectures with Bernhard von Sanden the Younger , Johann Ernst Segers (1675–1719) and Michael Schreiber .

After having completed the disputations De nomine logicae et dialecticae et paedia cuiuis scientiae praemittenda. 1712, April 27 (Praeside Prof. Rabe), De unione animae et corporis. 1716, February 19 (Praes. M. Goltz), De curiosa theologia vana et periculosa, Diss. VIII. De homine. 1716, Oct (Praes. D. Maseeovio) and In oraculum Jacobi, Gen. XLIX, 10-12, de adventu Shiloh. 1716, Dec. 18 (Praes. D. Bernh. De Sanden) held, he acquired the degree of Magister in 1717. He then gave lectures at the university himself. In 1722 he passed his exam at the Samland consistory as a candidate for the ministry. On August 7, 1723 he was archpriest adjunct and deacon in Labiau and in 1731 archpriest there. At that time he wrote some theological writings and took care of the development of the school system in Labiau. In 1768 he retired because of his age.
