Wilhelm Karl Adolf Graf von Dyhrn , Freiherr zu Schönau (born November 17, 1749 in Bernstadt in the Duchy of Bernstadt ; † December 17, 1813 in Chinow in the Pomerania Province ) was a German aristocrat , diplomat , minister , entrepreneur and landowner .

family

Wilhelm von Dyhrn was the son of the Oels-Württemberg court marshal Baron Anton Ulrich von Dyhrn and Schönau and his wife Sophie Karoline, née Freiin von Krausen, who was one of the largest landowners in Silesia .

On his mother's side, Wilhelm was a cousin of the Prussian politician Karl vom Stein zum Altenstein , and through the marriage of his older sister Antoinette Louise he was the relative of the Prussian Minister of State Karl Georg von Hoym .

Studies and career

After graduating from high school in Berlin , Dyhrn studied economics at the University of Göttingen in Lower Saxony. In 1772 he was appointed a consultant in the Königsberg KDK, and in June 1775 he received the title of Finance Councilor at the Prussian court . In the same year he was elected minister at foreign courts and also raised to the rank of count. Afterwards Dyhrn was also a royal chamberlain and finance councilor, and from 1813 also a Knight of St. John .

Dyhrn founded several glassworks , sugar and iron factories in Lower Silesia and Pomerania .
