Wilhelm Kleff

Wilhelm Kleff (born March 28, 1905 in Tüschenbonnen near Much ; † March 15, 1986 in Cologne ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman and lastly cathedral priest at the High Cathedral in Cologne.

Life

Kleff received on February 12, 1931 Cologne Cathedral, the sacrament of Holy Orders . Then he was initially chaplain to St. Georg before he was appointed cathedral vicar in Cologne in 1934.

It is said to have been Wilhelm Kleff who the American military priest Philip Hannan first met shortly after the conquest of Cologne in March 1945. Hannan subsequently became known as the savior of the cathedral .

On December 1, 1948 Kleff was appointed cathedral priest and in 1959 cathedral capital. In 1954 he was awarded the honorary title of papal secret chamberlain and in 1963 that of papal house prelate . In 1980 Wilhelm Kleff was retired due to age and released from his offices as cathedral priest and cathedral capitular.
