Wilhelm Knüppel

Wilhelm Knüppel (born November 12, 1902 Suckow an der Ihna ; † September 26, 1968 Koblenz ) was a German officer, most recently in the rank of major general .

Career

Knüppel joined the Reichswehr as a flag junior in April 1922 and was promoted to lieutenant in the 8th Infantry Regiment in December 1925 . He became company commander of the 5th Company in the 107 Infantry Regiment and was promoted to major on November 1, 1938. From August 26, 1939 to April 20, 1940 he was the first general staff officer of the 246th Infantry Division (Wehrmacht) . From April 1940 to December 1942 he was General Staff Officer Ia of the XXXXIII. Army Corps and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in this role in March 1942 . From January 25 to May 1945 he was Chief of the General Staff of the 4th Panzer Army . On May 1, 1945 he became major general.

After the war he was a prisoner of war until 1948.
