Johann Wilhelm Krafft (* around 1808; † 1865 in Düsseldorf ) was a German genre and portrait painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Coming from Berlin , where Krafft was one of the best students of the portrait painter Wilhelm Ternite , he studied from 1832 to the school year 1835/1836 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . In the "1. Class ”he was taught there by the academy director Wilhelm Schadow , who attested him good performance. In the last year of school he “almost never came to the academy”. The student lists of the academy close with the following remark: "lost his place because of work outside the academy". From 1833 he exhibited in Düsseldorf. Around 1835 Krafft was repeatedly a guest of the family of Carl Josef Henoumont and his wife Maria Anna, née von Daniels, at Haus Traar . During this time he portrayed the couple's family in a group picture. In Düsseldorf , where he worked until around 1850/1860, Krafft was one of the members of the Malkasten artists' association . In the address book of the mayor's office in Düsseldorf from 1855, both a painter Wilhelm and a draftsman Johann Baptist with the family name Krafft were listed. Later he is said to have also worked in Vienna. In addition to portraits, landscapes and genre images, Krafft produced humorous illustrations, including for the Düsseldorf monthly issue .

In the publication Die Fahnenburg and their picture gallery (1873) by Anton Fahne , the author listed his portrait in a fur skirt, painted by Wilhelm Krafft in 1854, with the addition that he was born in Berlin and died in Düsseldorf in 1865.
