Life

Born the son of a master baker, Laubenthal took up a teaching degree in German, history and geography at the universities of Vienna, Munich and Frankfurt am Main after graduating from the municipal reform grammar school in Merzig in 1933, which he did in 1938 with the scientific and in 1940 with the educational Completed exam. Subsequently , Laubenthal , who had meanwhile been promoted to senior studies director , took over the management of the state secondary school in Merzig , which he held until his retirement in 1976.

Laubenthal was first committed to the CVP and from 1955 to the CDU in local politics and was a member of the Merzig City Council from 1949 to 1956 and later also the District Council. In 1953 he was elected First Alderman of the Merzig District Council. He also published numerous studies of local history.
