Wilhelm Melchior
Johann Wilhelm Melchior (born July 25, 1817 in Nymphenburg , † September 9, 1860 in Munich ) was a German animal painter and lithographer.
Wilhelm Melchior came from a family of painters: his father Georg Wilhelm (1780–1826) and his older brother Joseph Wilhelm (1810–1883) were painters. He studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich from June 14, 1832 and continued his studies in London from 1850 to 1851.
Melchior occupied himself almost exclusively with painting animals, he mostly painted cows, sheep and goats. He also created lithographs. The influence of Dutch painting is noticeable in his works. Two of his hunting scenes are in the collections of the Neue Pinakothek in Munich.
